Since I was talking about confusing statistics yesterday I thought I would bring up the bounce rate of the site over the last month. Normally for a website a bounce (when a viewer looks at one page and then leaves) is bad. If a returning viewer does it on a webcomic its not that bad. Sure it would be better if they hung around and up-ed the page views a bit more but it most likely means they checked the most recent update and left. I had a fairly tolerable bounce rate when I started the comic. It was between 20-30% with 60% of bounces being from returning visitors. Then suddenly it stooped. It wasn’t gradual either. It had been declining a bit (1-2% a week) then it suddenly droped to 0. for a few weeks I assumed that something in the code was broken but then about 2 weeks ago I got one return reader who bounced. Looking at the last month then I have a 0.09% bounce rate. With the most common number of pages viewed per visit at 2 by far. I understand the numbers I am just not sure what is causing them. My best guess is that since I have done my best to make the author comments entertaining as well as the comic itself that people go from the main page with the blog to the most recent page to check out what witty thing I wrote in the comments. A bit egotistical of me I know but it’s the best I have thought of so far, maybe one of you will have a better (or at least funnier) idea. If that is the case though don’t worry I will be back tomorrow with more odd things to say about the comic or my life such that it is.
